remedē Patients Answer Your Questions
Why did you choose the remedē System?
“I was on CPAP for about 4 years, but my wife still noticed I would wake up at night and my heart would be pounding. I was not breathing well at night. My wife found out about the remedē System and encouraged me to get evaluated.”
Thomas, remedē patient since May 2014
“I did not want to wear the mask. I spoke with several others who had tried it and I didn’t feel like it was for me.”
Bob, remedē patient since December 2014
“Before getting the remedē system, Glenn’s central sleep apnea would keep me awake. I would frequently notice he had stopped breathing. I would lie next to him, waiting to hear his next breath. After he received the remedē System, I noticed almost immediately that the interruptions in his breathing stopped. It was very comforting to wake up during the night and hear him breathing easily.”
Susan, Spouse of Glenn, remedē patient since March 2014
What does it feel like?
“The first time I felt the stimulation it felt a little different, but it wasn’t uncomfortable. The breath itself felt natural, but it was a different sensation to know the device was telling my body when to breathe. I just relaxed and let it work.”
Glenn, remedē patient since March 2014
“It felt funny at first, feeling my diaphragm rise without me telling it to. Now I barely ever notice it. I usually lie in bed for a while before falling asleep, so I often feel the therapy come on. But I don’t even think about it. It’s almost like a natural thing now.”
Danny, remedē patient since July 2014
“At first I could feel it. I tend to breathe more slowly so the device needed to be tailored for me. I let them know what I was feeling and they reprogrammed the device for me. Now, I don’t even notice it.”
Bob, remedē patient since December 2014
Was it difficult to get used to therapy?
“I adjusted really smoothly and easily. Generally, I get off to sleep before the therapy comes on, so I am not even aware of it, which is pretty amazing. I usually just roll over if I feel the therapy start up before I am asleep. Rolling over turns off the device for a few minutes and delays the therapy until I am asleep.”
Glenn, remedē patient since March 2014
“At this point, it just feels normal. When I first started using the remedē System, the hardest part was just letting it work. The best thing to do is just let it do its thing and not try to override it. It took a little bit of getting used to, but now I sleep very well.”
Thomas, remedē patient since May 2014
“At first I noticed it but once it was tailored to me, I didn’t feel it anymore. I am now used to it and don’t notice it at all.”
Bob, remedē patient since December 2014
How long is the recovery after surgery?
“I stayed overnight after the operation and went home the next day. I was getting up and moving by the time I got home. It took about 7-10 days to fully get back to my normal routine after the operation, but it was never painful.”
Thomas, remedē patient since May 2014
“I had previously received a cardiac device and this was very similar to that. I went home from the hospital the same day. I wasn’t supposed to lift my arms above my head for a couple weeks but after that it was fine.”
Bob, remedē patient since December 2014
How have your energy levels and health changed since starting therapy?
“Generally, I feel much better and much more rested. If I don’t feel rested now, it’s usually because I stayed up too late. I used to have to drink a lot of caffeine to stay alert during the day. Now I drink mostly decaf!”
Glenn, remedē patient since March 2014
“To see Glenn now, he’s not tired like he used to be. He is sharper mentally and has more energy during the day. I don’t worry about him when he’s driving. It is very reassuring when I wake up and can hear him breathing at night.”
Susan, Spouse of Glenn, remedē patient since March 2014
“I started to feel better pretty soon after I started therapy. I noticed that I would wake up in the morning and feel much better than I had in a very long time. I don’t fall asleep at the drop of a hat anymore. I feel a lot better during the day. I used to feel tired all the time, especially when I was driving a truck on long-haul runs over the road. Even when I had a night to catch up on my sleep, I would feel really tried the next day no matter how long I slept.”
Danny, remedē patient since July 2014
“I didn’t realize how tired I was until after receiving the device. I thought I was tired because of my heart failure. I didn’t realize it was because I had central sleep apnea. After getting the device I found I could do things that I couldn’t before because I had more energy.”
Bob, remedē patient since December 2014
